THE INTERNATIONAL CYBER ACADEMY COMPLETED THE PROJECT “CONDUCTING TRAININGS ON PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH GDPR FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES OF UKRAINE”, WHICH WAS IMPLEMENTED WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION ADVISORY MISSION UKRAINE

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU regulation that has become a globally influential benchmark for data protection. While its legal force applies within the European Union and European Economic Area, its extraterritorial scope requires compliance by organizations worldwide when processing the personal data of EU residents. Adherence to GDPR not only ensures the legality of data practices under EU law but also facilitates international cooperation and demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to aligning with European standards of governance and development.
- European integration and legislation: in the process of European integration, Ukraine harmonizes its legislation in the field of data protection with the European one (the Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Personal Data" already has many common features with the GDPR). Knowledge of the European GDPR regulation helps to better apply national norms.
- International cooperation and extradition: EU countries require guarantees that data transferred to Ukrainian authorities will be processed in accordance with standards close to the GDPR. Knowledge of the GDPR regulation is a necessary condition for the successful and legal receipt or transfer of evidence.
- Fight against cybercrime: cybercriminals often use international servers and platforms that fall under the jurisdiction of the GDPR. To gain access to digital evidence (logs, user information) from international companies, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies must comply with international legal mechanisms that are based on EU data protection standards.
Therefore, the implementation of the training project "CONDUCTING TRAININGS ON PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION UNDER GDPR FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES OF UKRAINE" is important and timely.
300 employees from: the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine were involved in the project.

During October-December, participants of the training groups attended specialized webinars with 5 training modules with a trainer, and also worked on an interactive platform with practical tasks.
According to the project results, the involvement of participants exceeded 91%, which confirmed the interest of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies in this topic and the perspective to scale up such training in the future.

The project was supported and coordinated by EUAM, and the project was implemented by the training organization "International CyberAcademy".
